MedWish International continues to support people in Ukraine, as it supports those in Gaza, and those in need around the world. Two years after the war between Russia and Ukraine began, the ongoing fallout for families is starting to take shape.

Inspired/Led by Dr. Laura Bukavina, an assistant professor of Urologic Oncology at CWRU University Hospitals and a native of Ukraine, three Cleveland-based organizations came together to help individuals who’ve experienced so-called silent traumas: University Hospitals, Cleveland Maidan Association, and MedWish.

MedWish provided the supplies, hand-carried Dr. Bukavina and her team of four other Cleveland surgeons. University Hospitals donated an ambulance, which MedWish packed full of 800 pounds of supplies to support ongoing care.

During two weeks in October, they completed 21 reconstructive surgeries that will forever change the quality of life for these patients. These are stigmatized injuries, impacting the most basic human functions. And the results of these surgeries are life-changing — both for the patients who received them and also for the surgeons in Ukraine, who learned invaluable skills. Dr. Bukavina and her team plan to return in late April to continue the program.

“MedWish, across the world, is doing incredible things. By providing the basic surgical medical supplies, we are able to do what humans are meant to do. And that’s to help,” said Dr. Bukavina. Click the link in our bio to see the full story!

Healthcare is a basic human right that isn’t as easily accessible in many countries. Lack of resources exposes millions to diseases that could have life-changing consequences. At MedWish International, our goal is to bridge the gap between surplus in the U.S. and scarcity elsewhere. Your support enables us to carry out our mission of saving lives and the environment.

LOCAL IMPACT DURING EXTRAORDINARY TIMES

The donations of the purewicks and female external catheters were absolutely amazing and I am beyond words grateful. My mother passed away in the comfort of my home. It was with the help of these donations that allowed me to keep her home and in my care as long as I did.
